Disabled Thoughts during COVID-19

  1. Those who need constant access to hospitals for things like IVs etc obviously are having a hard time with the overpopulation from COVID-19
  2. Chronically ill people have to stay in their homes for days on end all the time for recovering our bodies from pain and overuse, so even when the virus dies down, we still will be inside sometimes, away from friends and isolated from the world
  3. What will happen to my body if I get the virus on top of my previous illnesses, aliments etc.?
  4. What happens if my body needs something that has closed/shut down because of the virus?  i.e. massages, care work...
  5. How will I afford the health necessities on top of the virus and not have a job at the same time?
  6. What emotions will I have because of the virus? Can I handle a higher level of self-isolation than I'm used to?
  7. Staying home (both able bodied and not) can save disabled lives by not spreading the virus to our bodies that have weak immune systems, heart problems or illnesses, and so many other reasons.

A short poem

I’m trapped
Mind-and-body numbingly inescapable
You strike me from within
The pain spreads like a wildfire
Bleeding into the cracks
You slither and seep down deep between my bones
You pin me down, sucking the life out of me slowly
I am suffocated, perforated
I am fighting to stay alive
Cracking, breaking
Withering away
I go dizzy and numb
You tear me to shreds
Fragmented on the floor, I am trying to pick up the pieces
Trying to mend myself back together
Or at least what I thought I knew I was
I have no choice but to surrender to your demands
